M26 Pershing Tank with M5 Gun 1:28 Scale Executive Edition 1,065 pc. Building Block Set by COBI – COBI-2563
The Pershing tanks that served in the last months of World War II were characterized by high efficiency. Mostly they ended up in General Patton’s army, where they did an excellent job. The production of the tanks began at 1944 and continued until 1947 when about 2200 units had been produced. The tank was equipped with armor up to 102mm thick and a 90mm M3 cannon which proved effective during war time conditions of WWII-era Europe (1939-1945). This tank also went on to serve again during the Korean War from 1950 – 1953.
The M5 gun was produced between 1942 and 1944, with approximately 2,500 made during that time. They were used in the Italian campaign on the Western Front as well as the Ardennes Offensive. The cannons are towed by an M3 Half-Track APC due to their weight while they fire at targets from a stationary position. Despite its effectiveness after WWII these guns lost its purpose when it came down to mobility so they slowly became obsolete and now serve only ceremonial purposes with a Presidential Salute Battery just outside Washington DC where these weapons make salutes up until this day.
